By the Bay with Kathryn Jones

Shaws Bay Hotel, 3 Brighton st , East Ballina

Diving back into the north coast’s live music scene, Ballina’s favourite Lil Gypsy, Kathryn Jones, nets a tasty catch hauling in a star-studded line up to the ever-green lawns of the Shaws Bay Hotel Sat 20th March. International master pedal steel player Michelle Rose features alongside Award winning Fiddler Mick Albeck & Hamish Dutton. Well respected bassist/producer to the stars Rod Coe and Ex Round Mountain Girls percussionist Rex Carter complete the band. Multi Award winning roots artist/producer Slim Pickens opens the show with his laid back, bluesy roots and Kathryn rounds up the afternoon performing her award-winning originals. By the Bay will see patrons enjoying the many genres that come under the umbrella of country. “Many people have a set idea of what country music sounds like and although there are specific genres that cover subjects like utes, broken hearts and my dog up and left me, I wish to expose the broader array of styles that exist in this colourful, fast growing genre” says Kathryn excitedly. From Bluegrass, Swing and Cajun, to folk, blues and honky tonk, there’s something for everyone. Kathryn’s most recent album Lil Gypsy scored 8 nominations at the 2015 Tamworth Country Music Festival. A finalist in the Tamworth Salute Awards (TSA’s) & in the New Songwriter of the Year, Kath won Best Vocal/Musical Event in the People’s Choice Awards and received a Brumby Award for the 1st single “Even Cowgirls Sing the Blues” which hit #4 on the Australian Country Tracks Chart and #1 on the Tasmanian Official Top 30 Country Music Charts. She also won Best New Celtic Talent at the 2016 Australian Celtic Music Awards.
